Job Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer specializing in agricultural machinery is responsible for planning, designing, developing, operating, and maintaining agricultural machinery and equipment. Their work aims to enhance agricultural production efficiency, reduce operational costs, ensure equipment reliability, and contribute to achieving environmental sustainability through modern mechanization technologies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Design and Development (R&D):
- Design and develop new agricultural machinery and equipment (e.g., tractors, harvesters, planting and seeding machines, automated irrigation systems, smart tillage equipment) or enhance existing ones using engineering design software (CAD/CAM/CAE).
- Conduct structural, dynamic, and thermal analyses to ensure the durability and efficiency of designs.
- Fully document technical specifications and engineering drawings.
Supervision and Operation:
- Directly supervise the manufacturing and installation processes of new equipment, ensuring precise compliance with design specifications.
- Monitor and evaluate equipment performance in the field or factory and propose practical improvements.
Studies and Evaluation:
- Conduct technical and economic feasibility studies to evaluate the latest agricultural equipment and technologies before investment.
- Analyze the total lifecycle costs of equipment (purchase, operation, maintenance).
Testing and Quality:
- Lead or participate in performance, durability, and safety tests for new or serviced equipment, both in controlled environments and field conditions.
- Ensure equipment possesses local and international quality and safety certifications.
Maintenance and Reporting:
- Develop preventive and periodic maintenance plans for equipment.
- Diagnose complex malfunctions and propose fundamental engineering solutions.
- Prepare detailed technical reports on equipment status, faults, maintenance work performed, and recommendations.
Training and Knowledge Transfer:
- Train technicians and operators on the optimal and correct use of equipment, with a strong emphasis on occupational safety and health procedures.
- Prepare operation and maintenance manuals in Arabic.
Innovation and Sustainability:
- Research and implement solutions to improve fuel and energy consumption efficiency in agricultural machinery.
- Contribute to water conservation projects through the development of smart irrigation systems.
- Develop solutions for Precision Agriculture using sensors and automated control systems.
Monitoring and Self-Development:
- Keep abreast of the latest global developments in agricultural mechanization, artificial intelligence, and automation.
- Evaluate the potential for applying innovative technologies locally, considering environmental and economic conditions.
Academic Qualifications, Requirements, and Skills
Academic:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Agricultural Engineering (specialization in agricultural mechanization) as a minimum. A Master's degree is considered an advantage.
Technical:
- proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software such as (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, CATIA).
- In-depth knowledge of machine theory, dynamics, hydraulics and pneumatics, powertrain systems, and engines (diesel/petrol).
- Knowledge of automated control systems (PLC) and sensors is a significant advantage.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Personal Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team (with agricultural engineers, electrical engineers, technicians, and agricultural extension specialists).
- Analytical skills and the ability to solve complex problems.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage time and work under pressure.
Experience:
- A minimum of 3-5 years of practical experience in designing, maintaining, or operating heavy agricultural machinery. Direct field experience is preferred.
